Musicians and vocalists Selene Hart and Jeff Edgerton (often accompanied by an additional friend or two) started the Westbound Coyote String Band in early 2015.
Selene Hart was born in Las Vegas, Nevada and has been singing her whole life. She started singing at a young age, including in her school choir. Hart’s family moved to Oregon in 2008. Hart followed to Oregon in 2011 and began playing the accordion. Soon after, she picked up the banjolele and found a love for jug band music. Prior to starting the Westbound Coyote String Band, Hart was in another old-time band in 2014 and a punk band in 2013.
Jeff Edgerton is a native Oregonion; born and raised in Coos Bay. He started playing music as a bassist in a punk band. Soon after, Edgerton began traveling, switched to the acoustic guitar, and met groups of musicians along the way who led him to develop a love for old time and jug band music. Along with a friend, Cody (Coyote), he started a folk band. After Cody's passing, and getting together with Selene, the Westbound Coyote String band was formed.
Hart and Edgerton started by playing ragtime and simple Jazz tunes, in addition to numerous Mississippi John Hurt covers. They recorded a demo in 2015 and released a live album in 2016 titled Live at The Boreal. They are currently working on both original songs as well as new and exciting covers for an upcoming album; they also have plans for new, beautiful videos coming soon.
